Nagoya, Japan – On June 13-14, 2026, the Migrant Workers Office – Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (MWO-OWWA) joined Tokyo-Philippine Embassy, Nagoya-Philippine Consulate General, members of the Filipino Community, Japanese partners, government representatives, and various stakeholders in Central Japan in the celebration of the 128th Philippine Independence Day and the 70th Anniversary of Philippine-Japan Diplomatic Relations held in Aichi Prefecture at Hisaya-odori Park, Sakae, Nagoya City which showcased the culture and heritage of the two friendly nations.
Themed “Fiesta Filipino Chubu 2026 – Himig ng Kalayaan”, the event kicked off with a grand opening led by Her Excellency Mylene De Joya Garcia-Albano, Ambassador of Philippines to Japan, and Honorable Shirlene C. Mananquil, Consul-General, Philippine Consulate General-Nagoya. A ribbon-cutting ceremony participated by the Philippine and the Japan government officials concluded the program.
On the sidelines, MWO-OWWA provided various assistance and services concerning employment contracts, OEC, OWWA membership, etc., to numerous Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) that greatly benefited those who reside in Nagoya and neighboring prefectures and an opportune time for the representatives to engage the Filipino community and various stakeholders to promote the Department of Migrant Workers’ programs, initiatives, and services and strengthen collaboration and cooperation for OFWs in this jurisdiction.
Various traditional performances/cultural presentations, singing of original Filipino music, performances of regional and domestic artists, pageant competition for male and female contestants, and appearances of Filipino celebrities highlighted the event.
